One of the topics that comes up quite often with other expats and foreigners is how to know if a Thai girl likes you and is genuinely interested in you. So in this article I wanted to give my thoughts about this and hopefully help some of you guys out.
The great thing is that most Thai girls are not shy once they actually like a guy. So you can usually tell if they want you by just paying some extra attention to how they act around you.

Give You Attraction Signals (Even Approach)
The personality traits of Thai girls can be conservative and shy, especially if they are “good” girls. But, when they really like you they actually make it quite obvious (even more than “westernized” girls).
A Thai girl will have no problem smiling at you, coming near you, or flat out approaching you when she wants to know you more.
Yes, even those shy “good” girls will giggle and smile at you when they like you. In most cases it is because they want you to go talk to them, but if they can speak some English they will come near you and try and talk with you.
Gets Jealous of Other Thai Girls Around You
We all know that Thai women can get jealous (real quickly), but when they actually love you, they take it to a whole new level. Actually, this jealousy factor may be one of the reasons not to marry a Thai woman in the first place.
They can start to check your phone, ask you personal questions, and even start stalking you.
Here is just one personal example:
One time my Thai girlfriend knocked on my apartment door at 4AM in the morning, and woke me up.
Half sleep I woke up wondering who it was. I thought it was maybe the security guard or the neighbors in an emergency situation. But no, it was my own Thai girlfriend who traveled across Bangkok because she was thinking I was cheating on her.
Her excuse was that she was “paranoid” and had a feeling that I was sleeping with another woman. You may think this is an extreme case, but these types of things have happened to many foreigners.
When you start to see some of these “high level” types of jealousy from a Thai woman it can even mean that she loves you. Be careful.
This can also be in public places like nightclubs and bars.
When a Thai girl likes you she will make it known to the other girls around you. She will purposely try and kiss you, or dance with you to make others know that you are a taken man.
Starts to Message You First
If She is the one that is starting conversation with you on LINE, Viber, Facebook, or any other of the popular Thai dating apps, then it is a huge clue that she is totally into you.
Usually she will also make an effort to text you things like:
- “good morning, have a nice day at work”
- “good night”
- “Did you eat breakfast/lunch/dinner yet?”
When you see a Thai girl texting you this way you can be sure that she likes you.
The opposite holds true if a Thai girl doesn’t like you. She won’t make an effort to message you, and you will notice that you are the one that has to initiae the conversations.
Ask You Questions About Your Personal Life
When a Thai woman begins to love you, she will be truly interested in your life. She will ask you more personal questions once she likes you. Here are some examples of things they would want to know more of:
- Your ex girlfriends or wife
- If you have kids
- Your Job and Life Ambitions
- If you have thought of moving to Thailand
From my experience, Thai girls like to ask you personal questions as a means to show interest in you And the more she likes you, the more she tried to understand what kind of man you are.
So don’t be offended by these personal questions, just try and answer them truthfully and with sincerity. It will make them even more interested in you.
Listens To Your Opinions About Her
If she opens up to you about her personal life and asks your opinion on them it is a huge signs that she has respect for you, which also means likes you.
In Thai culture, respect, attraction, and love is more closely related to one another than some other cultures (especially compared to the west).
When a Thai girl asks your opinion about her:
- job and career
- friends and family
- hope and dreams
- mistakes in her past
it can really mean that she respects you, and wants to build a loving relationship with you.
Want’s to Cook Thai Food For You
We can’t forget about the yummy Thai food! It is a way Thai people like to express their culture to foreigners.
When a Thai woman can’t wait to cook for you, and suggests for you to taste her food it is a great sign that she is interested in you.
While it is true that many Thai girls love to cook for their family and friends, they don’t always make an effort to cook for us foreigners..unless if they are trying to impress us. And in most cases, when a Thai girl is trying to impress you, it means that she likes you.
Will Bring Her Children (If Any) Around You
This is only relevant if she is a single mother with children, but can be an important indicator that they like you.
Thai women are very protective of their children, especially when it comes to males (their BF’s or ex husbands).
There are usually 2 reasons why they want to bring their kids around you
- To see If you are kind and loving to her children
- To see if her kids like you and want to be around you
If she is at this point, it means that she is really interested in you.

Thai or SE Asian women will also ask you these questions to assess your status and see how much they might be able to milk you for. OBviously, not all, but if a woman from Pattaya or a bargirl asks you these questions, she is simply trying to scope out whether it’s worth her time to invest in spending time with you. Always be careful.
